HTC Wildfire S and Motorola Defy are amongst the most popular and best selling mid range Android mobile phones in India. Defy has been quite successful and is among the only few successful phones by Motorola in India in recent times. On the other hand Wildfire S has been recently launched but its predecessor, the HTC Wildfire has been one of the best selling android mobiles in India ever. These two phones have much in common, so I thought of presenting this comparison.
Size and Design:
Both phones have economical design but still ruggedly built. Wildfire S is quiet small in size compared to Defy predominantly because of the difference is size of the display. Wildfire S is also slimmer than Motorola Defy with a thickness of 12.4mm compared to 13.4mm and also lighter than its competitor weighing only 105g in contrast to 118g of Motorola Defy. The better design and stylish looks of Wildfire S makes it stand out in this little battle.
Display:
Wildfire S comes with a TFT capacitive touchscreen with 256k color support, the screen size is 3.2inch. Motorola Defy has a large, 3.7 inch TFT capacitive touchscreen with 16M color support. Larger screen size, better resolution and color support means that Motorola Defy has a clear advantage when it comes to display.
Processor and OS:
Motorola Defy features 800MHz Cortex-A8 processor while Wildfire S has only 600Mhz of processing power. As far as the operating system is concerned, Defy has the oldest Android 2.2(Éclair) which can be upgraded to Android 2.2(Froyo) whereas Wildfire features the latest Android 2.3(Gingerbread).
Camera:
Both the smart phones features a 5MP autofocus camera with LED flash and resolution of 2592х1944 pixels. Motor Defy has a slight advantage though, it is able to record VGA video at 30fps compared to 24fps recording by the competitor Defy also has the image stabilization feature unlike Wildfire S. Both cameras also feature geo-tagging.
Storage Capacity:
Wildfire S features a 512MB of ROM and same amount of RAM whereas defy has a greater 2GB of internal storage and 512MB f RAM to go with it. Both phones support micro SD card up to 32GB to extend the storage capacity.
Final Verdict and Price:
Wildfire S has better design and looks and also has the latest Android OS but Motorola Defy a slightly better display, camera performance, processing power and storage capacity. With both the phones far behind the latest Android smart phones in terms of performance user is likely to get attracted to one with least price and as it comes out HTC Wildfire S prices much lower at around Rs.13,399 compared to RS15499 of Motorola Defy.
